Winter coats made for your Body Shape

YSE Style Team
Need a new winter coat but don't know where to start? We have curated a selection of our favourite coats of the moment, and have categorised them by the 5 Body Types - Hourglass, Pear, Apple, Inverted Triangle and Rectangle.

Remember, all body types are different and when you are determining which body shape sounds like you, take what resonates and leave the rest!
If you are an hourglass shape, your hip and bust measurements are nearly equal in size, with a significantly narrower waist measurement. Your lower hips are wider than your high hips and your thighs are full but narrower than the lower hips.

The coats you suit would anything that draws attention to your narrow waist; a belted trench, a wrap coat, a double breasted blazer or a cropped bomber jacket.

2 Pear

If you are a pear shape, you usually have wider hips and thighs, and smaller shoulders and bust measurements. You have a narrow waistline in comparison to your hips, as well as long, slim arms, a well-defined waistline, and your buttocks and thighs are full and round.

Coats you should opt for are styles that accentuate your smaller top frame, tailored or cropped jackets, bomber jackets, trench coats that accentuate your waist and full-length coats.

3 Apple

As an Apple shape, your waistline may not be very clearly defined and there is fullness around the midsection, hips and shoulders have the same width; your waistline has the same width or is wider. You may gain weight mainly around the waist, at least in proportion to the other parts of your body.

Jackets and coats you should opt for are styles that are open and oversized, to not draw attention to your mid-section, but to accentuate your legs, as well as peplum and blazer styles that can cinch in just below your bust area.

4 Inverted Triangle

If you are a triangle, your shoulders that are wider than your waist and hips. Your body follows the shape of a “V”, and your shoulders may be straight, squared, or athletic-looking.

Dressing for your type is all about balancing out your broad shoulders by drawing attention to your lower half, so opt for coat styles that have small collars or are collarless, or long, fitted styles.

5 Rectangle

A rectangle body usually has a straight silhouette with not many curves, shoulders and hips of similar width, little to no waist definition, and very long legs. Your shoulders, chest, and hips are fairly uniform.

Coat styles that suit you are structured, belted or double breasted. Denim jackets and vests also suit your shape.
